Monas Furbabies 8 Week puppy preparation program
Program Mission
At Mona's Furbabies, every puppy is raised in our home with intentional socialization, enrichment, health care, and positive experiences designed to prepare them for life as confident family companions.
Days 1–14
Daily: weigh puppies, ENS, Early Scent Introduction, gentle handling, nursing checks, cleanliness, notes.
Weeks 3–4
Introduce safe textures, tunnels, wobble board, toys, grooming, household sounds, short enrichment sessions.
Week 5
Obstacle course, potty area, confidence games, individual time away from littermates. Begin positive crate training with short, age-appropriate sessions: meals or treats in the crate, brief calm rest periods, and gradual door closure without forcing or prolonged distress.
Week 6
Meet new people and safely socialize with healthy, puppy-appropriate family dogs of different breeds, sizes, appearances, and play styles under close supervision. Add short car rides, collar introduction, recall games, grooming table exposure, and leash exposure. Introduce loud everyday noises at safe, gradual levels, such as the vacuum, blender, hair dryer, doorbell, pots and pans, television, children playing, and normal household activity. Continue daily positive crate training.
Week 7
Basic foundations: eye contact, sit, come, daily crate naps, temperament observations and puppy matching notes. Continue controlled socialization with appropriate family dogs and household sounds. Add gentle grooming desensitization, including a grooming simulation hold: briefly and calmly position and support the puppy as they may be held for brushing, nail care, ear checks, paw handling, bathing, drying, or a veterinary or grooming exam. Pair handling with praise or treats and release before the puppy becomes overwhelmed.
Week 8
Go-home preparation: bath, grooming, vet visit if scheduled, daily crate practice including short independent rest periods, car rides, puppy pack, continued household-noise exposure, and gentle grooming simulation holds.
